Welcome to our new series where we take an in depth look at the rescued food ingredients that make our natural, eco-friendly skincare products well and truly unique. Today the ingredient under the microscope; olive oil! A skin wonder food known for its emollient qualities, this bioactive ingredient works so well as it has a chemical composition similar to that of the skin’s natural oils so it’s inclusion in our Healthy Hydrating Moisturiser helps it to melt beautifully into the skin delivering a host of key benefits.
A Timeless Skincare Ingredient
The use of olive oil in cosmetics is as old as recorded beauty traditions. In ancient Egypt, it was blended with beeswax to create early forms of moisturisers. Greek athletes famously applied it to their bodies before competitions to improve skin tone and showcase vitality. There’s a reason historically it has been known as ‘liquid gold’ due to its versatility and efficacy.

What Makes Olive Oil So Good for Skin?
Olive oil is loaded with healthy fats, antioxidants, and vitamins, including:
- Vitamin E: A powerful antioxidant that helps combat free radical damage and supports skin regeneration.
- Polyphenols: These protect against environmental damage and have anti-inflammatory effects.
- Squalene: A compound naturally found in human sebum, squalene helps hydrate and soften the skin without clogging pores.
Together, these elements make olive oil deeply moisturising, calming for irritated or sensitive skin, and effective in reducing signs of ageing.
Pressing Matters
We use by-products from the organic Italian Olive Oil industry that would otherwise go to waste to create our super smooth moisturiser.
- Our glorious skin-softening rescued ingredient comes from Italian Olive Oil production (The OG’s of OO’s)
- To make olive oil, our manufacturers take freshly harvested olives and squash them in a press
- On one side of the press, you’re left with the golden oil and on the other, you’re left with a cake of olive leftovers – this is called a pomace
- Our partners then take the waste pomace which would otherwise go to landfill
- They process it using high-tech green chemistry to obtain a nourishing liquid that’s very similar to the texture of the skin, and this is what goes into our vegan, natural skincare. Watch the video below for an overview of our process...
An amazing natural skincare ingredient that provides long lasting hydration, has anti-inflammatory properties that can calm sensitive skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, and can improve skin elasticity which aligns with our stance on ‘pro-aging’ skincare, olive oil is a timeless ingredient and a skin care classic!
